Effects of urbanization are alteration of surface runoff,\u00a0 evapotranspiration and infiltration, increasing also impacts on environment through water borne pollutants.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Urban water management faces several challenges. On one side, water supply systems have to cope with increasing demands and reducing availability of good quality water resources. On the other, natural and artificial drainage networks are more frequently insufficient to convey runoff, with the increase of urban flooding also due to effects of climate change. Also the impact on the environment is a concern, with natural watercourses that must meet quality standards.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Water sustainable management strategies should be based on the integration of nature-based solutions, techniques of river renaturalization and restauration and sustainable urban drainage design. Water supply should be made more resistant and resilient to changing scenarios, by encouraging the use of alternative water resources and the enhancing the use of smart optimizing techniques for water distribution.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The final goal is to build future cities that are more resilient to risks and changes, more socially inclusive, more ethical in the satisfaction of water needs and more sensitive to community vulnerability in front of global challenges.
